We don’t recommend pressure washing before painting. Proper preparation is key for long-lasting results. Strip old stains and remove algae to restore the wood's beauty. Soft washing is ideal for eliminating microorganisms. Use a pressure washer with caution to avoid damaging the wood, and cover plants beforehand. Pressure washing a house

Use the lowest pressure setting that's effective, and start at least 24 inches away from the deck. Use a fan-tip nozzle set at a 40–60 degree angle, and avoid narrow streams or rotating tips. Test the spray in an inconspicuous area first. 

• Pre-treating

  For heavily soiled decks, apply a wood-specific cleaner or detergent and let it soak in for 5–10 minutes. 

• Cleaning with water and detergent

  Mix warm water with a small amount of dish soap or mild detergent in a bucket. Scrub the deck gently with a brush, paying special attention to stains and discoloration. Rinse thoroughly with a hose or pressure washer.
